Preparing children for the next stage in their education is crucial to supporting them to be successful learners and confident individuals. St Barnabas CE First and Middle School has a rigorous and comprehensive approach to transition. The transition approach starts as early as the summer term and is tailored to suit individual needs, e.g. a child's age, a child with SEND, CLA (children looked after), etc. Some examples of transition activities include, but are not limited to:

• school tours
• new class teacher reading class novel at the end of the day
• drawing a map of the school, including new classroom
• receiving postcards from new class teacher over the summer

Some transition points that staff plan for are transitioning:

• into Preschool
• into Reception
• into the next year group
• into Year 5 from a local First School
• onto High School

There are key events, activities and assessments associated with each transition point.
