Transition
Preparing children for the next stage in their education is crucial to supporting them to be successful learners and confident individuals. St Barnabas CE First and Middle School has a rigorous and comprehensive approach to transition. The transition approach starts as early as the summer term and is tailored to suit individual needs, e.g. a child's age, a child with SEND, CLA (children looked after), etc. Some examples of transition activities include, but are not limited to:
- school tours
- new class teacher reading class novel at the end of the day
- drawing a map of the school, including new classroom
- receiving postcards from new class teacher over the summer
Transition to St Barnabas can happen at any point. To find our more about in-year admissions, please contact the School Office.
Some transition points that staff plan for are transitioning:
- into Preschool
- into Reception
- into the next year group
- into Year 5 from a local First School
- onto High School
There are key events, activities and assessments associated with each transition point.
